Education

Senior at the University of Vermont with a double major in English and French. Overall GPA of 3.71 (English 3.95, French 3.67)

Experience

(NOTE: My availability reflects my spring class schedule.) Previously, I have tutored elementary-age students in reading, writing, and French. I have also tutored elementary-age French-speakers in English. I was hired last year at UVM as a subject area tutor in an English course on critical theory. I have spent two years in Belgium learning French, one year on a youth exchange program to learn about the culture and to learn the language through total immersion, and one year at the Université Libre de Bruxelles studying literature. I am passionate about literature, the English and French languages, and French culture. I plan to be a TEFL teacher abroad for several years after graduating, then returning to the U.S. to be a high school teacher in English literature. I make up my own worksheets, games, and presentations to make the material more fun. This technique is easily adjusted to follow what students are seeing in school or to what you as the parent would particularly like your student to see. The most important thing to me in tutoring is to make sure that the students are having as much fun with the material as possible -- I want to help them become life-long learners, instead of becoming disillusioned with school and with class from an early age. If you're a university student looking for a tutor in anything related to French or English, I'm happy to help as well. Relevant classes, test scores, and recommendations available on request.
